What is the Problem
With the rising concerns related to the global environment, it is undeniable that changes need to be made in the average Canadian lifestyle. Large lifestyle changes like not having a vehicle or investing in a hybrid or electric car is often not a feasible solution to the average Canadian household. EcoDrive provides users with a practical and inexpensive solution, to begin their journey to decreasing their carbon footprint.
How it works
Along with the application, the user will obtain a Telematics Device, which will connect the app directly to the individual’s vehicle to access accurate emissions data.
This device plugs into the diagnostics port underneath the dashboard of the vehicle. The device will share with the app data on the users speed, gas usage, and overall vehicle behaviour relating to its emissions.
Based on the statistics received from the vehicle, visual representations through graphs and comparisons to other users will be available.
Along with the statistics, tips to reducing carbon footprint through altering your driving habits will be available.
What is a Telematics Device?
A telematics device is an instrument, that you install into your car. It records information about your driving behaviour, including how fast you drive, how fast you brake, and the distance you drive.
Why will people use it
The EcoDrive application will attract clients by promoting an incentive to drive more efficiently. Based on a pre-set scale, users can collect points based on improvements made to driving habits and decreases in vehicle emissions.
The points can be accumulated and put towards credits with partnering organizations. Partners such as Petro Canada and Jiffy Lube would offer rewards such as gas cards, oil changes, car washes or other vehicle maintenance services.
The daily attention anticipated for this application will be based of the incentive for users to view their emissions statistics and evaluate the points that they have earned.
